Across the Wastes

I've failed the last scenario (The Hole) in the Across the Wastes mission for Rangers of Shadow Deep a number of times, and the fourth time Joseph A McCullough (the author of the game) commented this:

Hmmm.... okay, suggestion. You've created quite a commotion with your attacks on the hole, which has caught the attention of some of the nomads who live in the Waste. Three of them approach you in the night and offer to help your fight against the Shadow Deep. If you've got a Gathering of Heroes, one of these will be a Firesword. If not, it's a tracker instead. One of the others is a swordsman and the last is an archer.

Since I'm silly I didn't just proxy those models, I built them, and here they are:

The statues in one of the pictures are chess pieces I cast from a Prince August mould I found cheep.

I haven't updated the blog in a while, here are some pieces that's been finished for a time. Here's some desert rocks. I also converted these skeleton archers with Prince August ghoul and skeleton bodies, since I had the old Wargames Factory arms, but dislike the flimsy bodies (mainly the legs). Oh, and a pile of corpses (yes, two is a pile!).

The pile is also made from the PA ghouls, a very flexible mould, I've used it for all sorts of projects. As soon as I need some dead/undead/diseased/tattered bodies I take a look at these.

Here are some gaming pictures from Across the Wastes, now I just hope that those nomads can help me finally descend the hole into the Shadow Deep!

Space zombies and spaceships

Wow, it seems as if I haven't updated the blog in a long time, so time for a bit of a photo dump then. I've received a kickstarter from John Hodgson, a couple of books with backgrounds for miniature photography, so I've used those. For getting ready to play Quarantine 37 I've painted some space zombies, and started building some tyranids for the bugs.

Death Fields Cannon Fodder for the bodies, and Stargrave Scavengers for most of the arms and visible heads. The ones with closed helmets is my solution for the bloater zombies. I've also finished a couple of random crew members:

What did I finish more? Yeah, my Buzz Lightyear spaceships.

More Rangers of Shadow Deep

I'm still painting up figures for upcoming Rangers of Shadow Deep adventures, and I've started to play the Temple of Madness mission. First we have some mummies from the Conan boardgame. These should fit well as Sandhusks in Across the Wastes. I painted up ten of them, but have ten more if I ever see the need for an army of mummies.

Next we have some guardsmen, also from Conan. One of them has already joined my ranger, and the rest will be NPCs.

I needed one more gnoll archer, and since I use skaven for my gnolls I converted up a skaven slave with a sling. The hand is from GB's Dark Age Warriors set. It should fit in with the rest of my slingers, most of whom are old skaven metals.

I also made some doors and tents for different scenarios. The doors are metal from a Prince August mould, and set in their plaster wall moulds.

The tents are made from old business cards folded in thirds, with triangular cardboard insets and then covered in old handkerchief cloth.

Here is a wall of fire for the Temple of Madness. It's just made from coloured card, costing 18 SEK, so what's that, £1.50?

We end with a bunch of gaming pictures, from Incinerator and Temple of Madness. I hope to play the final ToM scenario very soon.

New rangers and skeletal ogres

This is another update for Rangers of Shadow Deep. First we have the good guys:

From left to right we have a new set of clothes for Yost the Archer, a new knight who is about to be recruited (he's a bit on the short side), Pabrim the desert guide, and Gorbin. The ranger archer and the ogre is from Ral Partha Europe, the dwarf is an ancient GW model, and Pabrim is mainly from Gripping Beast plastics.

I like how the eyes and mouth turned out:

And then we have the bad guys:

The Mouth of Sauron will probably be used as a spectral horseman, the nazgul on foot is made from a GB arab with Frostgrave knight arms and a hood made from arab cowl turned upside down. The two undead ogres are from Ral Partha Europe.

And finally I finished the painting of the sandblades I converted last time.
